My goal is to help clients connect with their inner resources in order to create positively directional change in life. I work in a client centred, trauma informed way, recognizing the importance of creating a safe and supportive atmosphere.

Body Wisdom

I believe in the wisdom of the body. When the body is relaxed, we are more able to connect with our inner resources. Much of my work is focused on how clients can increase their ability to listen for the body’s wisdom. I see the body as the vehicle that allows permanent transformational change to occur.

Collaboration

Clients bring a wealth of knowledge to the counselling process. I appreciate that clients are the experts in their own lives, they know everything that has brought them to this point in life. My role is to support clients in connecting with their inner resources so they are able to be successful in making change.

Meta Goals

In alignment with my training in the Satir Model. I have ‘meta goals’ for my work with clients. These include helping the client: increase their self-esteem; take responsibility for Self; and increase connection with Self. In my work I strive to help clients increase their internal awareness and to remove internal blockages or habits that are leading them to feel stuck in life.

A little bit more about Kathryn...

Kathryn Patterson MA, RCC

I have a great love of life. I believe in the importance of personal growth, self care and creativity.

With each passing year, I grow to love counselling more and more. There is nothing like connecting with a client and being part of their process of positive transformation.

For me, working with clients is an honour and a privilege.

Personal Growth

Personal Growth

I strive to continuously improve my connection with Self. This includes engaging in my own therapy, journalling, and daily introspection. I am a proponent of professional development and, in addition to my Master's Degree in Counselling from UBC, I have received training in the Satir Model, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Yoga Nidra, Body-Mind Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Brainspotting.

Self Care

Self Care

For me, self care is important so that I can be grounded during sessions with clients. My self-care regimen includes: daily meditation, practicing Chi Kung, practicing Yoga Nidra, listening to music and spending time in nature.

Creativity

Creativity

I believe that creativity is an important part of life. I connect with my creativity in my work as a therapist. I also enjoy painting and writing poetry. Recently, I was fortunate enough to be able to combine my therapeutic role with my creative writing and I authored a children's book. The book is titled 'Harriet & Corbin Meet at Kitsilano Beach'...check it out on Amazon.ca!
